Our mission is to support graduate research and foster networks between students, faculty and colleagues across the field of education, from Oxford and beyond. We welcome papers from educational practitioners as well as graduate students offering a wide range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives on education. Equally, we welcome presentations on both in-progress and completed research. Our 2023 theme is “Shifting Sands in Education: Environment, EdTech, and Equity.”

This year’s conference will be a two-day online event, held on Wednesday 15th March and Thursday 16th March. Presentations will be ten minutes long, followed by panel questions/individual questions. Please submit an abstract of no more than 250 words for our consideration by midnight (UK time) on Sunday 19th February.

More on this year's theme

As we observe the rapidly changing social and technological landscapes across the globe, adapting education to the new demands on today’s learners and teachers becomes more challenging. Our theme for the 2023 STORIES Conference is “Shifting Sands in Education: Environment, EdTech, and Equity.” This theme is based on what we perceive to be some of the most important threads for our global community: our interaction with the non-human environment including climate change and sustainability; technology and its use for education; and the persistent acknowledgement and work to correct injustices. It is key to highlight research around education that addresses these integral paths of change as we continue to adapt and evolve through the impacts of a global pandemic and continued development in sectors such as technology, while supporting and creating safer, more equitable spaces for previously and currently marginalized groups.

In 2023 especially, we believe that the theme of “Shifting Sands in Education: Environment, EdTech, and Equity” will bring together the ideas that will shape the future of education in the face of fluid social and environmental change and the persistent progress of information technology. We welcome paper abstracts from all angles, perspectives, and contexts.
